TriAthy gets €5,000 while one of the biggest awards goes to the Umbro Galway Cup in under age soccer which receives €13,000.
“Next year promises to be a great one for festivals, with a huge range of local events taking place in almost every corner of Ireland,” Minister of State Michael Ring said announcing the awards.
The financial support is coming from Fáilte Ireland under the Regional Programme of the Festivals and Events Initiative.
Shaun Quinn, CEO of Fáilte Ireland stressed the importance of festivals for Ireland and the tourism sector: ‘Wherever you go around Ireland next year, the year of the Gathering, there will be festivals and things to see and do everywhere. Behind all the fun and enjoyment lies a strong business case. The simple matter is, interesting and attractive festivals bring people into this country and encourage people to travel throughout the country. Festivals and events also greatly improve the overall experience of Ireland for those who come.”
Sport for Business will publish more detail about a number of these festivals over the coming weeks.
