Today is the closing date for entries to take part in one of our favourite events of the year, the PExpo taking place at DCU on Wednesday, April 6th.

This is effectively a BT Young Scientist Exhibition but in the world of physical education, life science and sport.

The event has been held since 2015. In 2020 it was one of the last events to take place for schools before the lockdown began and last year’s event was held in a virtual setting.

Now it is back in person and Sport for Business is delighted to be involved once more.

We will be among a panel of judges and we will also host discussions on the stage throughout the morning. If you would like to tell your story to an audience of sports interested teenagers from over 200 schools up and down the country then get in touch with us via the form below.

Developed in association with the Physical Education Association of Ireland, PExpo is an annual exhibition of projects on sports-related topics for second-level school students.

There are awards for the best overall projects in junior (up to 3rd year) and senior (from 4th year) categories as well as under seven main headings:

  • ICT and Sports Photography
  • The Power of Sport
  • Well-Being
  • Components of Fitness
  • Nutrition
  • Games Development
  • Sports Psychology

There are also two special categories relating to Women in Sport and the Business of Sport.

Sport for Business is proud to sponsor the latter and as well as the Award the winning students will be invited to pitch their idea to a special Sport for Business event in September bringing together our two worlds of sport and business.

Projects are judged not only on content but also on presentation and on the student’s ability to explain their subject and defend their conclusions on the day.

Last year, a project examining the impact of second-level education on adolescent well-being submitted by Shane O’Connor and Liam Carew from Abbey School in Tipperary Town was the overall winner in the senior category.

In a Munster double, the best junior project winner was Caoimhe Walsh of St Brogan’s College, Bandon, Co Cork for her project titled “Can-teens make better food choices?”

Supporters of PExpo ’22 include Dublin City Council, South Dublin County Sports Partnership, Trinity College Dublin, Healthy Ireland, University of Limerick, Healthy Ireland and Chillax Teens as well as Trinity Comprehensive School, the Physical Education Association of Ireland, the Irish Primary PE Association, Sport Ireland and Sport for Business.
