In its centenary year, The Olympic Federation of Ireland and their main sponsor PTSB were among the stars of the show at the St Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin on Sunday.

Olympians down the years as well as some of those hoping to give of their best in Paris this summer took part in the parade and took as many selfies with the crowd as they could ever have imagined.

The sun shone and sport was to the fore with local clubs lighting up parades across the country as well.

Children from gaelic games, football, rugby, swimming, martial arts, basketball and more took part in the Dun Laoghaire parade, held for the first time again in almost 50 years, and probably provided as much as 70 per cent or more of those taking part.

The atmosphere all across the country was buoyed by the good weather and the glow of Ireland winning the Guinness Six Nations the previous day and it was great to see sport take such a central role in the celebrations.
