It may not have had the full drama of the previous weekend but try telling that to Limerick hurling fans or to supporters of Chris Froome in the Tour de France.
42,370 – The size of the crowd at the Gaelic Grounds to see Limerick end a 17 year absence from the Munster Hurling Title roll of honour, most of whom took to the pitch as the final whistle blew in scenes of pure delight for a proud sporting city and county.
1,900 – The climb in metres, over 20 kilometres to the moonlike peak of Mont Ventoux which Chris Froome conquered on Sunday, becoming the first British cyclist to do so and virtually assuring victory in the Tour de France.
71 – The number in years since Dublin last held both the Leinster Senior Football and Hurling titles, prior to Sunday. The county has never won the All Ireland double, the closest it ever came being in 1924 when having won the Hurling title, the footballers lost by one point to Kerry in a delayed final.
14 – The number of runs by which England won the first ashes test against Australia, hailed as one of the most exciting in the long history of the rivalry.
1.5 – The number of pages devoted to cricket in the weekend Sunday Independent, more than for any other sport other than gaelic games. Howzat!
