WHOOP, the performance technology company with a significant base in Dublin, has launched two new flagship devices — WHOOP® 5.0 and WHOOP® MG — marking an important evolution in the brand’s pursuit of athlete health, longevity, and data-driven performance.
The launch in Boston yesterday was accompanied by a reimagined app experience and a new three-tier membership structure aimed at making WHOOP’s advanced insights more accessible across the spectrum of sports, from elite professionals to emerging athletes and performance-focused consumers.
Ronan Jones, the Marketing Manager for WHOOP, was one of our speakers at last month’s Sport for Business Sport and Data event in Dublin.
The new devices position WHOOP more firmly at the intersection of sports science and health technology. Unlike general fitness wearables that prioritise surface-level metrics, WHOOP 5.0 and MG are designed to deliver clinically relevant data in real time.
The introduction of features such as on-demand, FDA-cleared ECG, physiological age tracking, and wrist-based blood pressure estimation marks a shift in how wearable tech can support not just daily performance but long-term athletic health.
WHOOP Founder and CEO Will Ahmed described the launch as a defining moment for the company and its global membership. “This isn’t just another hardware release — it’s a step forward in how athletes, teams, and health professionals manage performance and recovery. We’ve built a platform that helps people live and perform at their peak, for longer.”
One of the most anticipated additions is the Healthspan feature, developed in collaboration with the Buck Institute for Research on Ageing.
It uses nine longitudinal health markers to determine a user’s WHOOP Age and pace of ageing, offering a powerful tool for managing athletic longevity. The new Heart Screener provides an on-demand electrocardiogram directly from the wrist, capable of detecting irregular rhythms such as atrial fibrillation and easily shareable with medical personnel.
WHOOP has also introduced a patent-pending blood pressure insight feature that estimates systolic and diastolic readings daily—an industry first for wrist-worn trackers. The MG version, which includes a medical-grade ECG accessible via conductive thumb placement, underscores WHOOP’s expanding role in clinical-grade consumer health tech.
For women athletes, the platform now goes beyond traditional cycle tracking by delivering tailored hormonal insights throughout key life stages, including menstruation, pregnancy, and perimenopause. Enhanced sleep metrics and recovery scoring further support smarter training decisions and reduce injury risk, both of which remain priorities for coaches and sports medicine teams.
Hardware improvements include a smaller, sleeker design that packs more sensors into a 7% reduced form factor. Enhanced processing power allows for data capture at 26 times per second, enabling WHOOP to deliver richer insights without compromising wearability or battery life. Both devices now offer 14+ days of battery per charge, and when paired with the new Wireless PowerPack, users can extend uptime to nearly a whole month.
The company also unveiled a tiered membership model that allows users to match their performance goals with the appropriate level of insight and hardware.
The base plan, WHOOP One, offers core fitness tracking at an annual cost of €199. WHOOP Peak, at €264 per year, includes advanced recovery and longevity features. At the top end, WHOOP Life delivers access to the full suite of tools, including medical-grade ECG functionality, for €399 annually.
The move is intended to make WHOOP more scalable across use cases—from professional sports organizations seeking deeper analytics to casual athletes focused on lifestyle improvement.
Cristiano Ronaldo, WHOOP global ambassador and investor, called the platform “a doctor on my wrist,” emphasising the value of consistent behavior monitoring and long-term health prioritisation. His endorsement highlights WHOOP’s growing relevance not just in training rooms but at the highest levels of global sport.
As WHOOP continues to expand its footprint among professional leagues, Olympic programs, and collegiate systems, the introduction of WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG signals a bold step toward integrating high-performance analytics with proactive health management.
For sports organizations seeking a competitive edge through better recovery, injury prevention, and career longevity, WHOOP’s latest release offers a comprehensive, wearable-first solution that is designed to meet the moment.
