Sport for Business, in partnership with Liberty Insurance, is publishing our third annual list of the 50 Most Influential Women in Irish Sport.
This is not about Women’s sport, it is about the influence that women are wielding across all sport. Â We will identify leaders on and off the field of play. Â They will include those who are role models in terms of their abilities on and off the field of play. Â They will come from teams and individual sports, from sponsorship partners, from the media, from the administrative corridors of power and from places where influence may be subtle but no less powerful.
Lisa Browne and Edel McCarthy
Lisa Browne and Edel McCarthy are the team behind some of Ireland’s biggest sporting sponsorships.
Browne as Head of Marketing and McCarthy as Group Sponsorship and Activation Manager are responsible for deciding on which assets to pursue and how to make them most effective for the brand.
Speaking at the Sport for Business Partners Event in 2017 McCarthy spoke intelligently about how energy is a service that is only noticed when it’s not there and the challenges this presents to make sure they are front and centre of mind when alternative suppliers come calling for our attention.
Electric Ireland have covered all the bases from a sporting perspective with sponsorship of the All Ireland Minor Championships in Hurling and Football, the Home Internationals for the Irish U20 Rugby team as part of the Nat West Six Nations and as main partners of the UEFA Euro U19 Women’s Championships held in Northern Ireland over the summer.
They have spread the net wider as well with title sponsorship of Team Ireland at each of the last two Olympic Games in London and Rio.
The advertising and content that Electric Ireland use in support of their sponsorship programme is always memorable, ranging from the clingfilm dinner of the Minor footballers to the electric blue branding and championing of athletes at the Olympics.
Picking the right properties and making the brand fit seamlessly into their presentation is down to Browne and Mccarthy as well as the strong team they have assembled.
