25,000 expected for World Fire and Police Games
56 sports across 41 venues in Northern Ireland
Sponsorship drawn from wide range
Private investment from €2,000 to €100,000

This is the 15th staging of the games which have taken place every two years since the first gathering of competitors in San Jose, California in 1985. It has previously been held in Stockholm and Barcelona in Europe, Melbourne, Australia and across North America including in New York in 2011.
Belfast won the right to host the games and has pulled together a total of 41 venues at which 56 events from Angling and Archery to Volleyball and Wrestling will be competed for.
Participation is open to serving and retired fire, police and prison officers from across the world. The stated mission of the organisation is to create community interaction and awareness, educate children on the benefits of sport, and develop camaraderie between members of the emergency services from around the world.
There is an impressive list of commercial partners with Danske Bank extending their sports interest through the games along with Coca Cola, Diageo, Fujitsu, Kukri and Deloitte as Platinum sponsors.
Translink is the official transport supplier, Food NI the official food partners and a range of other relationships with a mix of local brands and international suppliers to the emergency services.
Over 100 officers from the Irish emergency services have signed up including Westmeath football star Denis Glennon and his Mayo counterpart David Clarke and the GAA is offering its support as well as other sporting bodies. Men’s, Women’s and Masters 7-a-side events will take place at Queens University.
Games organisers are currently contacting volunteers who completed the interview process to help out at venues and with the general running of the games.
The whole event will provide a major boost for tourism and for the reputation of Ireland as a venue for similar large scale events.
