Daniel Wynne has been appointed to the role of Head of Operations at the Aviva Stadium. He joined the Operations team at the venue in 2015 having previously held roles with the Irish Rugby Football Union in Team Services, the Rugby Department, Finance and Operations.

As Head of Operations, he will be responsible for the venue’s hosting of all rugby and football internationals including the UEFA Nations League, FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO Qualifiers, Guinness 6 Nations, Autumn Nations Series, and Heineken Champions Cup fixtures as well as the venue’s hosting of concerts, which this year included Harry Styles, The Eagles and Westlife.

He is a graduate of TU Dublin, where he qualified with a degree in Architecture in 2008 before moving into a career in sports administration.

He holds a first-class honours degree in Management Practice from Ulster University and will also fulfil the role of Stadium Lead on a number of longer-term projects including the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, Europa League Final 2024, Euro 2028 Bid project and the EPCR Challenge Cup and Heineken Champions Cup Finals in 2023.

That is a full plate but also an indication of the major sporting events which are heading Ireland’s way over the coming years.

Wynne replaces Mick Davoren who has just retired

“Mick was part of the original stadium management team and had a major role to play both in building relationships with the local community around the stadium and also with the many external bodies with whom we work closely around all our major events,” said Stadium Director Martin Murphy.

“Daniel has made a major contribution to the stadium since he joined the team in 2015. He has been particularly to the fore over the past year as we come out of the difficulties of the Covid-19 period and its many challenges. Happily, this year, we have enjoyed a great run of successful sporting fixtures and our recent series of three most successful concerts.”

“Mick did a wonderful job during his time with the stadium and I learned a great deal from him,” added Wynne.

“I am very much looking forward to the major European occasions of the next two years when the stadium will play host to the EPCR Challenge Cup and Heineken Champions Cup Finals in 2023, and the Europa League Final in 2024.”
