The record-breaking attendance of the 2019 Ladies All-Ireland Football Final has been ranked among the golden moments of women’s Gaelic Games, according to new research revealed by Solgar as part of its “Golden Moments” campaign.

Over 56,000 fans watched Dublin topple Galway in a rain-drenched Croke Park in the 2019 clash, and Dubs fans will be hoping for more of the same this coming Sunday (August 3rd ) as they take on neighbours Meath in the senior decider.

Being played on an August Bank Holiday Weekend and up against the All Together Now Festival in Waterford may impact the chance of replicating that number, but there is a concerted effort from both Ladies Football and Camogie to jointly push for big numbers over the next two weekends of All Ireland Finals action.

Over a quarter of Gaelic Games fans (26%) highlighted the exploits of the seven-in-a-row Kilkenny Camogie team, with the same figure claiming the 2013 All-Ireland success of Galway, after a sixteen-year wait, were among the biggest moments in women’s Gaelic Games.

Cork’s epic comeback against Dublin, in the 2014 All-Ireland final, overturning a ten-point deficit to secure their ninth All-Ireland title, was highly regarded by almost a third of fans (29%).

As this year’s inter-county All-Ireland championships race to a close with the upcoming Ladies Football and Camogie finals taking centre stage in the coming weeks, over half of Gaelic Games fans believe nothing beats the excitement of being at a game (56%).

When it comes to the games’ most iconic players in recent years, fans ranked current All-Star forward Hannah Tyrrell, former players Sinead Aherne Mayo’s Cora Staunton plus Cork Camogie player Ashling Thompson among those who stood out to them.
