
He joins Robbie Henshaw and Iain Henderson as the third player to feature in this year’s campaign and the focus is on how he has developed through his club Clontarf to become a regular star player with Leinster and Ireland.
Well, maybe regular is stretching the point of late with Carbery not having played a full match in any colours since injuring his wrist against Fiji in the Guinness Autumn Series back in November.
He is a young man though for whom patience is a key part of his make up. As understudy on both teams to Jonathan Sexton he will always have had to bide his time, just like Sexton did with Ronan O’Gara.
He already has the credit for having closed out the famous Chicago win against the All Blacks and watching the video below you can see he has the grounding to continue biding his time until the moment to shine arrives.
Whether that is over the coming weeks as Ireland close in on a NatWest 6 Nations Championship and potential Grand Slam in as yet unknown but if it is, he will be ready.
So too indeed will Canterbury for whom a Grand Slam winning jersey would be a notable boost for sales.
