
The sport’s governing body was awarded the top prize of €25,000 to help launch a series of Street Handball seminars aimed at inspiring 200 teachers and youth leaders as well as 10,000 young players to get active in a sport that can be played anywhere and at any time.
The first corporate Street Handball challenge was held in September in Temple Bar and proved a great success.
The second annual Coca-Cola Thank You Fund was launched in May. A shortlist of 45 was announced in September and these were then sorted by a panel of experts and a public vote, both of which were worth 50% in the final adjudication.
The judging panel was made up of a Coca Cola representative as well as variety of experts and promoters of active lifestyles which included Karl Henry, Personal Trainer; Alan Quinlan, Former Muster Rugby / Ireland Player; Sarah O’Connor, Chief Executive at The Federation of Irish Sports; Eoghan Murphy, Fine Gael TD in Dublin South East; Deirdre Garvey , CEO, The Wheel ; James Laverty, Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action and John Heaslip, CEO, Business in the Community Northern Ireland
Other sports related initiatives among the ten runners up, each of whom receives €10,000 in funding were Ballina Boxing Club, Ballyduff AFC, Northern Ireland at Play and Spraoí agus sport.
