This power is recognised by the close association which exists between sport and charity at many different levels.
A major element of mass participation events like the Dublin Marathon or the Spar Great Ireland Run is the ability to use sport as a medium for fund raising.
Sporting events and organisations go to fine detail over partnerships with charities that will appeal to their different audiences and which will work with the sport to foster a long term beneficial relationship for both.
On Wednesday, January 23rd, Sport for Business will host its monthly Members’ Round Table on the issues surrounding Sport and Charity. We will be joined by representatives of some of Ireland’s leading sporting charities and from sporting organisations keen to share and learn from what they have done in the past.
We will also consider the implications for both sides were sporting clubs themselves be encouraged to reach for charitable status.
Charities like Goal and Playing for Life are firmly focused on the sporting world to raise money to help in other areas of society. Sport against Racism Ireland uses sport as a mechanism to reach out to communities and make Ireland as a whole get on better with the different groups that form it.
Paralympics Ireland is itself registered as a Charity and meets part of its annual financial demands through donations from supporters. Special Olympics Ireland does likewise through a number of imaginative schemes and especially through its national collection day in the Spring.
A small number of places are still available for this Round Table event.
Participation in the Round Table programme is open, free of charge, to full members of the Sport for Business community. We also reserve a number of spaces for guests and potential future members.
