Paddy Power is offering an imaginative way for horse racing bettors to kick start 2021 with a guaranteed £1 million (€1.12 million).

The bookmaker is the main sponsor of this weekend’s November Festival at Cheltenham. The racing will be held behind closed doors but will be broadcast on ITV.

The competition is based on punters having a winning €5 bet on one of six “Millionaire Chase qualifiers over six weeks starting next Saturday.

After each race, everyone who backed the winner will be entered into a draw for a place in the Millionaire Chase final on January 1st, 2021.

Each finalist will be assigned a horse in the Paddy Power Handicap Chase at 2 pm on New Year’s Day, with the winner receiving £1million and becoming the first millionaire of 2021. The losing finalists will each receive £10,000.

The first qualifying race for The Millionaire Chase will be the 3.25 pm at Cheltenham on November 14th.

“It’s been a year to forget for most of us – so we want to make 2021 unforgettable for one lucky punter,” said Paddy Power.

“Simply by backing one winning horse before the end of 2020, they could find themselves crowned the first new millionaire of 2021. Not a bad way to start the year.”

“The Paddy Power Millionaire Chase will give people something to think and dream about,” added Brand Ambassador Ruby Walsh.

“The odds are better than in the Lottery, and there’s an element of skill. My advice would be that the favourite is unlikely to win in all six races.”

The concept of the big money win from a relatively small stake has always driven the bulk of the betting industry. With betting shops closed across Ireland and Britain, at least until December 1st, the move towards an ever more mobile and online offering to customers has accelerated and this is the kind of stand out promotion that will help them secure a greater share of the small stake bettors that form the bedrock of the business.
