Every cloud has a silver lining and that is certainly the case in 2020 for Ulster Camogie.

At the weekend Antrim and Down, Cavan and Armagh won through to the finals of the Liberty Insurance Intermediate and Junior Championship Finals to be played on December 5th.

They overcame Meath, Roscommon, Laois and Tyrone to set up the unique double pairing in what can only be a strong boost for Ulster camogie.

Add in the fact of Slaughtniel’s performances at AIB All Ireland Club Championship level in recent years and things are healthy for the sport across the province.

The unique double pairing is in part down to the prevention by public health authorities of second teams from traditionally strong counties taking part in this year’s Championships but while that will be an asterisk in the history books in the years to come, the record will still read of Ulster’s year in the sunshine. Even if that is for a Finals day in December.

This Saturday the Senior Championship takes the spotlight with Cork taking on Kilkenny in the opening Semi-Final at 12-30 and Galway defending their title against Tipperary at 2-15. Both matches will be staged at Pairc Uí Chaoimh and televised live on RTÉ 2.
