The Government has announced an overall package of €150 million in new capital grants under the latest round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.
A record high of €144 million has been allocated to almost 1,900 applications with €6 million kept in reserve for successful appeals lodged by unsuccessful applicants.
3,106 applications had been submitted seeking over €200m in funding when this round closed in March 2021. This was also the highest number of applications ever received, showing that there is still a huge demand for the funding.
Approximately one thousand of the applications were for ‘equipment-only’ projects. These applications were assessed first and grants with a total value of €16.6m were announced on 6 August 2021. (Read More).
17 projects within the regional allocation have been awarded the maximum of €300,000. These include the County Boards in GAA of Tipperary, Dublin and Westmeath, and a number of multisports projects around the country.

Crucial
“Sport is crucial for all communities in Ireland,” said Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin.
“This was a record number of applications for these grants and the government responded with the most significant level of individual awards ever.”

“As well as the major field sports, funding is being provided to tennis clubs, cricket, boxing, kayaking, wheelchair sports and martial arts to name just some.
