The United Rugby Championship has released the first content in the ‘Take on Tomorrow’ series, a collaboration with Roc Nation Sports clubs and players across the league designed to shine a spotlight on their off-field endeavours promoting social good.

The new series provides a platform for them to tell stories about projects they are involved in that really matter to them.

The first story is that of Siya Kolisi, South Africa’s first black captain who led his country to World Cup glory in 2019. Kolisi plays in the URC for Cell C Sharks and in the content above he talks about his life away from the pitch, how the Kolisi Foundation was created and how their work helps people in his home country.

“The Kolisi Foundation is a big part of my life and having more opportunities to talk about what we are trying to achieve will only help our cause,” he said.

“There are many players in the league that have a story to tell and I can’t wait to see more of these come to life through this series.”

The ‘Player in Focus’ content series forms part of the United Rugby Championship’s ‘Take on Tomorrow’ programme designed to inspire change through the power of rugby and provide a platform that recognises the impact that its players and teams make away from the field of play.

We will be joined by URC Commercial Director Kelly Cooke at our Sport for Business Sport for Social Good Events for 2022 (Thursday, February 24th) to talk about the programme and its potential impact.

This content will be showcased on the United Rugby Championship’s social media channels “@URCofficial” on Instagram, Facebook, Tik-Tok, YouTube and Twitter and feature more players from the league over the coming weeks and months.

Kolisi’s opener runs to over five minutes but does not miss a beat as he tells the story of why and how he and his wife Rachel established the Kolisi Foundation to tackle food security, gender-based violence and other serious social issues.

“As part of our evolution into the United Rugby Championship, it was integral that our values align to our position as a league and use our platforms to champion the efforts of our players from across our different backgrounds as they strive to make an impact on society,” said URC CEO Martin Anayi.

“We are really excited about launching Take on Tomorrow programme and watching it grow over the coming years with a series of campaigns aimed at showcasing our players and teams’ efforts off the field and creating projects that allow fans from across the league opportunities to make an impact similar to their heroes.”

“We are so excited to have helped the URC bring this series to life,” added Roc Nation Sports President Michael Yormark.

“This initiative further highlights the league’s desire to work more collaboratively with its players and the feedback we have received has been amazing. The URC are in a great position to build upon this and work with its players to connect with new audiences as they tell their stories to the world.”
