Sport for Business is working together with Du Laoghaire Rathdown Local Sports Partnership to host an evening for clubs on the subject of ‘Disability Inclusion Within Sports Clubs’

Sport and activity are for everyone and the inclusion of all abilities should be an integral part of any sports club. Aside from the benefits with regard to physical and mental well-being, inclusion as a core value is also an important link to community connection.

The event will take place for local Clubs from 7.00 pm – 8.30 pm on Tuesday 28th March in The Lexicon, Dun Laoghaire.

We will bring together a panel of experienced people from a variety of different sporting backgrounds to discuss their experience on the topic of ‘Disability Inclusion within Sports Clubs’.

The panel discussion will be chaired by Rob Hartnett, Founder of Sport for Business and will include contributions from Sara McFadden of Vision Sports Ireland, Keira Brown of Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club, Sarah Kerrigan, Mark Barry from the Irish Wheelchair Association and Sarah Hewitt from St Michael’s House.

We will discuss the options local clubs have to positively and meaningfully provide opportunities for people with disabilities to take part in sport and physical activity.

We will also look at how to develop and improve structures and remove barriers to embed a positive ethos of inclusion within the club, as well as the supports and grants that are available. Also, being discussed are the supports and grants that are available.

“There is an ongoing challenge we are seeing within the community, where people with disabilities are not always able to easily access activities or sports of their choice,” said Shane McArdle, LSP Co-Ordinator.

“Through collaboration and sharing best practice, we can all work together to break down the barriers and create more opportunities for all abilities.”
