The GAA’s annual Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta will take place in the West Cork Gaeltacht of Múscraí this weekend between the 31st of May and the 3rd of June and will be hosted by local club CLG Chill na Martra.

All seven Gaeltacht counties will be represented as well as clubs from Dublin and Antrim.

This year sees the 53rd staging of Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta and more games than ever will be broadcast on TG4 and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta – both proud partners of the competition.

Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta was set up in 1969 to bring Irish-speaking clubs and communities together for a weekend of football.

Many footballing greats have taken part in the competition over the years – Kerry’s Muintir Uí Shé and Dara Ó Cinnéide, An Cheathrú Rua’s Seán Ó Domhnaill, Gaoth Dobhair’s Kevin Cassidy, Cill na Martra’s Noel O’Leary, Meath’s Graham Geraghty and Naomh Abán’s Micheál Ó Cróinín to name just a few.

Beidh Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta 2024 ar siúl i nGaeltacht Mhúscraí i gCill na Martra, Contae Chorcaí, i mbliana idir 31 Bealtaine agus 3 Meitheamh agus beidh sé á reáchtáil ag CLG Chill na Martra. Imreoidh clubanna ó na seacht gcontae Ghaeltachta chomh maith le clubanna ó Áth Cliath agus ó Aontroim i gcomórtais na bliana seo.

Is é an 53ú Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta a bheidh ar siúl i mbliana agus beidh níos mó cluichí ná riamh á gcraoladh ag urraitheoirí an chomórtais, TG4 agus RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta (féach an sceideal thíos).

Bunaíodh Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta thiar sa bhliain 1969 agus d’aidhm aige lucht labhartha na Gaeilge ó chlubanna ar fud na gceantar Gaeltachta a thabhairt le chéile. Le linn na mblianta sin, d’imir plúr na bpeileadóirí ag an gcomórtas. I measc cuid acu sin bhí muintir Uí Shé agus Dara Ó Cinnéide ó Chumann Caide na Gaeltachta, Ciarraí, Seán Ó Domhnaill ó CLG na Ceathrún Rua, Caoimhín Ó Casaide ó Ghaoth Dobhair, Nollaig Ó Laoire ó Chill na Martra, Graham Geraghty na Mí agus Micheál Ó Cróinín Naomh Abán agus go leor leor eile nach iad.
