Zambrero Ireland, with the help of sports ambassadors, Rugby Sevens Star Terry Kennedy and Olympic Sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley, is setting out pack up to 120,000 meals on Saturday 5th October at St. Mary’s College in Rathmines, Dublin.
It is part of a global goal to donate 100 million meals by 2025 through its Plate4plate initiative along with charity distribution partner Rise To Hunger.
500 students from St. Mary’s College and 200 volunteers from the community will pack the 120,000 meals, bringing the global figure close to 83 million and well on the way to the 100 million goal for the brand.
That’s a target of just over 170 meals for every volunteer that turns off, not even taking into account the occasional nibble they might be tempted to take surrounded by all that food.
It is the culmination of an year of donations by Zambrero in Ireland and around the world, as it pledges a meal to someone in need with every burrito or bowl purchased. To strengthen its pledge even further this year, all burritos and bowls sold on Saturday, 5th October, Zambrero will double its donation so one meal sold; two meals donated.
“I am delighted to support this brilliant cause once again and honoured to be a part of Zambreros efforts to combat global hunger,” said Mawdsley.
“I’m really looking forward to working alongside the volunteers to get a record number of meals packed and ready to be distributed to those desperately in need. It is especially poignant around this time as we mark World Food Day and is a testament to the positive impact that teamwork and community spirit can have.”
“I am a long-time fan of Zambrero as a restaurant and I admire the goal of feeding people in need through the Plate4plate campaign,” added Kennedy.
“It is a privilege to be part of this and I’m really looking forward to getting my sleeves rolled up and getting to work.”
“This is our third year of the initiative, and we have received such strong support from our community of customers and partners that our sights are set for even bigger numbers of meals in 2024,” said Darragh Fanning, General Manager of Zambrero Ireland.
“We are further supported this year by our brilliant ambassadors Sharlene Mawdsley and Terry Kennedy, and we thank them for helping us to make an even bigger impact for those in need.”
