What better to kick off a week of great golf than in the company of 135 Special Olympics athletes at Portmarnock Jameson Links this afternoon.

A stiff breeze made a challenging course tougher, but the winning scores at Level One came in at 75, 81 and 81.

This gathering of players from all around the island of Ireland serves as a qualifier for next year’s Ireland National Games but also as a brilliant event in its own right.

Golf Ireland and Special Olympics Ireland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the planning of pathways and events for players with intellectual disabilities.
