Paralympics Ireland has today confirmed the five athletes who will represent the country at the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships, taking place from September 21 to 27 at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Singapore.

The Championships, which will welcome more than 600 athletes from over 60 nations, mark the first time the event has been staged in Asia.

Team Ireland brings together a blend of seasoned international performers and emerging talent.

Leading the group is Róisín Ní Riain (S13/SB13/SM13), fresh from a double Paralympic medal in Paris and already a reigning World Champion, World Record holder, and multiple European champion.

Still only 20, Ní Riain has been a mainstay on the international stage since making five finals as a 16-year-old in Tokyo.

In Singapore, she will compete in the 100m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 400m Freestyle, and 200m Individual Medley events.

Barry McClements (S9), a two-time Paralympian and European medallist, will bring his experience to the team, competing in the 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke.

Deaten Registe (SB14), who made his Paralympic debut in Paris, will line up in his specialist 100m Breaststroke.

Dearbhaile Brady (S6/SB6/SM6), another Paris debutant, continues her development as a multi-event swimmer. She will compete in the 200m Individual Medley, 50m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, and 50m Butterfly events.

Rounding out the squad is Síomha Nic Brádaigh (S7/SM7), one of the rising stars of Irish Para swimming, who will make her World Championships debut in the 200m Individual Medley, 400m Freestyle, and 100m Backstroke.

“We all wish our swim team the very best for the weeks ahead,” said Stephen McNamara, CEO of Paralympics Ireland.

“The preparation work is done, and now it’s about putting those plans into action. This is an exciting time for our athletes, and we can’t wait to see them compete.”

“Our athletes have been working extremely hard in preparation for Singapore, and this World Championships provides a fantastic opportunity to test ourselves against the very best in the world,” added Hayley Burke, Para Swimming Head Coach.

“For some, it will be a chance to build on their Paralympic experience in Paris, while for others it’s about gaining vital exposure on the international stage. We are confident that this team will not only perform with pride but also continue their progression towards Los Angeles 2028.”
