Oisín Jordan has been appointed to the role of Director of Sport at Special Olympics Ireland, succeeding Karen Coventry, who has been the new CEO since last month.

Oisín has been an integral part of Special Olympics since 2004, initially joining as the first Regional Development Officer for Sport in Leinster. In 2007, he went on to serve as Football for All National Coordinator with the Football Association of Ireland, where he introduced and implemented the organisation’s first Football for All strategy.

In 2019, he returned to Special Olympics as Regional Director of the Eastern Region. During this time, he successfully guided and supported his team through the challenges of Covid-19 and oversaw the continued growth of the programme in the region.

His contribution to inclusive sport was recognised earlier this year when he received a Special Recognition Award from Active Disability Ireland, honouring his outstanding work in promoting inclusion and community
engagement.

Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate for athlete empowerment, health and wellbeing initiatives, Athlete Leadership and coach development programmes that break down barriers and create lasting opportunities for participation.

In addition, he has contributed internationally as a Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Sports Advisor for Football, supporting competitions across the region.

It is a great appointment, and we look forward to working with him in the role ahead of a big year for the organisation in 2026, as it hosts the first Ireland National Games for the first time in eight years.
