The Irish qualifier for the World Corporate Golf Challenge has been officially launched, setting the stage for a new corporate golf experience at Killeen Castle on Friday, August 21st.
The launch event took place at Pitch on June 30th, bringing together business leaders, company representatives and corporate guests for an introduction to one of the world’s leading business golf championships.
The World Corporate Golf Challenge brings together business, networking and golf across more than 40 countries, offering companies the chance to compete locally while connecting with a global sporting and commercial platform.
The Irish franchise has been taken on by Hazel Thompson, Founder & CEO of Excelerator Luxury Golf Tours, who brings extensive international experience across established golf tourism markets, including North America and Australia.
Hazel previously served as Associate Director with EY across Australia and Oceania, working in the Asia-Pacific region.
Ireland’s inaugural event will take place at Killeen Castle, one of the country’s premier championship venues and a former Solheim Cup host. Teams of two will represent their companies in a competitive but highly social environment, with the winners progressing to represent Ireland on the international stage.
A highlight of the launch evening was the Trackman Closest to the Pin Challenge, played on the famous 16th hole at Royal Portrush, “Calamity.” The virtual version proved every bit as challenging as its reputation suggests, with plenty of efforts finding trouble before Craig De Vos of Renaissance Engineering Ireland landed his shot on the green, just 16 feet from the pin.
His prize was a complimentary team entry into the World Corporate Golf Challenge Ireland Championship at Killeen Castle.
There was further competition on the night with the Longest Drive Challenge, won by Diarmuid Finnan of Workday, the California-headquartered software development company with more than 2,200 employees in Dublin.
The evening underlined the appeal of a championship that combines high-quality golf with meaningful business networking. Guests heard about the global reach of the World Corporate Golf Challenge and the opportunity for Irish companies to be part of a tournament that connects the boardroom with the fairway.
The strong interest shown on the night points to an exciting debut for the Irish event and a valuable new addition to the corporate sporting calendar.
Teams can now register online for the Ireland Championship at Killeen Castle on August 21st.
Further information is available at ireland.worldcorporategolfchallenge.com, with team entries costing €500 for a team of two.
