Amgen has extended its title sponsorship of Cuala GAA through to 2029, deepening a partnership that has become a standout example of how commercial support for community sport can deliver impact beyond traditional sponsorship.

Announced at Croke Park this week, the renewed agreement will see the biotechnology company continue its backing of Cuala’s adult playing structures across all four codes, including four adult hurling teams, five adult men’s football teams, four adult camogie teams and four adult ladies’ football teams.

The partnership, now entering its eighth year, also retains a significant educational element through the continuation of one principal bursary and four supplementary bursaries annually for Cuala members entering third-level education in STEM and related disciplines.

Recipients also gain access to Amgen’s graduate programme, linking sporting participation with educational and career pathways.

Speaking at the announcement, Amgen Vice President of Operations Paul Green said the partnership reflects the company’s broader commitment to community development.

“Amgen’s contribution to health extends far beyond just making medicines. We’re proud to contribute to the communities in which we operate.”

“As a trusted partner of Cuala, Amgen’s commitment extends beyond the pitch. Every year we provide one main bursary and four supplementary bursaries to members of Cuala who choose third level education in STEM subjects.”

He added that the continuation of the partnership would help unlock further opportunities for players and the wider local community over the coming years.

Cuala Chairperson Aisling Fay said the support from Amgen had become integral to the development of the club and its wider community ambitions.

“The value that this sponsorship adds to the community cannot be measured or taken lightly.”

“Support can be given to all teams equally so that all our players can develop and flourish, not just the elite.”

“It is because of Amgen’s support and their awarding of these educational bursaries that these young people are given the opportunity to further their education and to add to their community.”

She added that the partnership reflected the broader role of modern GAA clubs within their communities.

“We in the community of Cuala are very grateful that Amgen is part of our village and we look forward to continuing to raise the next generation of children together.”

Minister for Health and local TD Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD welcomed the renewal, highlighting the broader significance of the relationship.

“To celebrate this partnership, and the continuation of this partnership, is really special.”

“It reinforces the really important community links that are provided through GAA, through Cuala in particular in our area, and through Amgen.”

The sponsorship extension comes at a time of continued growth for Cuala, whose membership has risen significantly in recent years and whose profile has expanded through success across multiple codes and a growing role in community development. It is currently fundraising to complete the purchase of it’s first owned pitch and the development of new club facilities at its Dalkey base.

This deal, rooted in education, participation and grassroots development rather than visibility alone, makes the partnership one of the more progressive examples of club sponsorship currently operating in Irish sport.
