Each weekend, we select performances from Irish sports worthy of highlighting. This weekend, we highlight action in Gaelic Football, Golf, Rugby and Athletics.

This week’s Champions of the Weekend is brought to us by PwC, one of Sport for Business’s key partners and supporters of our annual 30 Under 30 Future Leaders in Irish Sport.

Kerry Football

Kerry’s three matches in Croke Park in the knockout stages of the 2025 Championship have been masterclasses in the sport of Gaelic Football.  David Clifford was brilliant, but so too were Paudie Clifford, Gavin White, and Joe O’Connor at an even higher level.

Padraig Harrington

A third Senior Major to add to the three he won on the regular tour places Harrington among the all-time greats.  He led by two coming into the final round, and an eagle at the first hole saw him kick on, adding to the US Seniors Open he won earlier this year. He is the fifth golfer to win both the Open Championship and the Senior Open

British and Irish Lions

There was at least some drama in the winning try only being scored with the last play of the game.  That said, while the tour is doubtless of enormous significance to those who have played, eight wins from eight and a series wrapped up before the third and final test next Saturday, has left many a bit less engaged than might have been hoped.

Kate O’Connor and Nicola Tuthill

Kate O’Connor’s Heptathlon Gold and Niola Tuthill’s Hammer Silver made this the most successful World University Games for Team Ireland since 2005
