The 2022 Colours ‘Festival of Rugby’ returns to Trinity College Park this weekend following a three-year hiatus.

The colours match is an annual Rugby Union fixture between local rivals Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, the fixture was inaugurated in 1952 and this year celebrates its 68th edition.

The women’s fixture will take place today, Wednesday, 30th March from 7:30 pm while the men’s fixture will take place on Friday, 1st April at the same time.

Trinity Men’s rugby team are looking to retain the Colours title while Trinity women’s rugby team are looking to win the title for the first time.

“This is the 68th edition of the colours rugby match, it has been going for a long time and there is a tremendous rivalry between the two major universities in Dublin,” said Trinity Rugby President Johnny Sexton.

“We hope that everyone in attendance enjoys the friendly rivalry and camaraderie we share with UCD.”

“The colours rugby match is undoubtedly the highlight of the players’ season, it’s one of the unique things about being a university student and playing rugby at a university,” said his UCD opposite number David Carrigy.

“We are looking forward to attending the historic setting of college park for both the women’s and men’s fixtures.”

“After a three-year wait, Trinity College Dublin is extremely honoured to host this year’s “Colours Festival of Rugby” which promises to be an exciting week of activities and celebrations,” added Michelle Tanner, Head of Sport and Recreation at Trinity College Dublin.

“Our teams will be out to perform their best on our home pitch. We will also see, a recreational tag rugby event targeted at increasing participation in the sport which is an important element of the development of rugby at Trinity.”
