Tyrone forward Eoin McElholm has been named the 2025 Dalata Hotel Group GAA U20 Footballer of the Year, following a stunning campaign that saw him lead Tyrone to consecutive U20 All-Ireland titles.

The award, selected by a panel of Gaelic Writers’ Association journalists, recognises McElholm’s remarkable scoring prowess—amassing 6–24 in the championship—and his knack for delivering in crucial moments .

A ‘Difference Maker’

Dermot Crowley, CEO of Dalata Hotel Group, praised McElholm as “the embodiment of what it means to be a ‘Difference Maker.’”

“His passion, commitment, and impact on the field speak for themselves — but it’s the tireless dedication, leadership, and hard work he brings to every moment that truly sets him apart.”

“We are proud to honour him as the 2025 Dalata Hotel Group GAA U20 Footballer of the Year. He represents the very best of the GAA, and the spirit that our ‘For Difference Makers’ campaign celebrates.”

Crowley, reflecting on Dalata’s new five-year sponsorship of the U20 Championship, emphasised the alignment between the hotel group’s values and those of the GAA.

“Dalata’s difference has always been our people, and hotels have always played a significant role in GAA life.”

“This sponsorship provides a fantastic opportunity for us to develop a deeper connection with the GAA community among both players and fans.”

Championship-defining performances

McElholm’s standout moment came in the All-Ireland final at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh, where he scored 2–4 in Tyrone’s emphatic 5–16 to 0–17 victory over Louth.

Earlier, his goal in the semi-final helped secure a 2–14 to 0–14 win over Kerry.

These decisive contributions cemented his status as the top scorer and a pivotal force in Tyrone’s success.

His achievements were formally celebrated today at the GAA’s U20 Team of the Year announcement, during which Crowley reiterated the importance of recognising young talent:

“The passion, determination and sportsmanship shown by both teams truly embodied the spirit of the GAA – values that align closely with who we are at Dalata.”

“Supporting this championship allows us to contribute to the development of young talent and celebrate the Difference Makers in our communities.”

Tyrone had six players on the Team of the Year, Louth four, Donegal and Mayo two each and one for Kerry.
