Dub Match Tracker

The team behind the successful @DubMatchTracker account on Twitter walked away from last night’s first RaboDirect sponsored Tweeties as the sporting kings of Ireland’s twitter sphere.

The organisers at Digital Times pointed out that “without doubt, this category attracted the most votes. The Irish are passionate about their sports and the sports stars that inspire them. It was also the most hotly contested category.”

The final shortlist was longer than in any other category and consisted of:

Brian O’Driscoll – @BrianODriscoll
Sean St Ledger – @seanstledger12
WWE Sheamus – @WWESheamus
Dublin Match Tracker – @DubMatchTracker
GAA Scores – @GAAScores
IRFU Rugby – @irfurugby
Cork GAA – @OfficialCorkGAA
Setanta Sports – @SetantaSports
TheScore.ie – @thescore_ie

The winners were based on one vote per account and the inclusion of the relevant hashtag.

With 18,000 followers compared to Brian O’Driscoll’s 360,000 it was a fine achievement from account founder Dave Whelan and a measure of the following it now enjoys among a dedicated audience on the site.

As focus in GAA now switches quickly back to club matters it is unlikely he will have much time to rest or celebrate but Sport for Business wishes all the best to him and to the other sporting accounts on twitter, which very much serves as our own primary news source on interesting initiatives from around the sporting world.
