It was a successful Guinness Six Nations for the Senior men’s team with a Triple Crown secured, a second-place finish and a host of strong performances but it was nothing compared to the U20 team.
They secured a third-ever Grand Slam on Sunday at Musgrave Park and did so in utterly dominant fashion.
The third home win of the season came by a margin of 59-5 with nine tries on the board.
Through the tournament, they scored a total of 29, by sixteen different scorers. By Comparison, France in winning their own Grand Slam at senior level scored 17 tries across nine different scorers.
Sunday’s win came before a sold-out Musgrave Park in Cork, with 8,000 fans in the venue they have now claimed as their own and at which they remain unbeaten.
“Every time you come down here it’s an amazing place,” said Head Coach Richie Murphy speaking after the game.
“We’ve trained here for the three days leading up to the game and Musgrave has a special feel to it for us.”
“The crowds come into the ground really early and you can see how much it means to them to have the U20’s down here. The support has been incredible. I got goosebumps as the lads ran out onto the pitch.”
