The new Irish ‘Away’ or alternate kit has been launched in Dublin and we at Sport for Business are delighted to report that it is in our colour purple.

Traditionally seen as a colour of power and nobility, in Roman times only the emperor was allowed to wear it as a colour.  It is rare in nature giving it an exclusive feel.

It will be interesting though unlikely if the Irish team was to wear it against Italy. In that country it is though unlucky for an actor to go on stage wearing any purple clothing.

In reality it is unlikely that the jersey will get much wear with the only colour clash traditionally being for games against South Africa.

The Vodafone branding stands out well despite eschewing the traditional prominence of the red colour code strongly evident on branding on the green jersey and around the Aviva Stadium.

The technology of ventilation, strength and stay dry or ‘vapodri+’ technology is as has become the norm and there is a nice nod to history and heritage.

Taking inspiration from Lansdowne Road, the oldest rugby ground in the world and the historical home of the IRFU, 4 gold bar tacks link to the embroidery on the original Lansdowne Caps.

“The jersey launch supports Canterbury’s ‘Not Luck. Only Commitment.’ campaign which brings to life the Irish Rugby Teams commitment to the game, leaving nothing to luck in their pursuit of glory,” said a spokesperson for Canterbury.

This is a big year for Canterbury.  Not only are they suppliers to England’s Grand Slam winning team, Ireland, Leinster, Bath and Cardiff but also to the British and Irish Lions who will be travelling to New Zealand next summer.

The new Ireland Rugby range is now available to pre order from shop.irishrugby.ie and canterbury.com
