The Ireland Cerebral Palsy squad are currently playing in the IFCPF World Cup Quarter-Finals against World Number One ranked Ukraine.
So far in the tournament group stage, the team has beaten Germany 2-0 and secured a 6-0 win over Thailand before going down to Brazil.
That was enough to finish second in Group B. Now, they have an opportunity to reach the final four – if they can be brave and take their chances.
“The tournament has been really good for us so far with two brilliant and convincing wins against Germany and Thailand, said midfielder Dillon Sheridan.
“Unfortunately we fell short against Brazil but we still have a Quarter-Final to look forward to, so have to remain positive.”
“Ukraine will be a really tough game for us but the coaching staff have got the tactics spot on in all three group games, so once we step onto the pitch it’s up to us to be brave and execute the plan. It’s definitely where we want to be playing the best team in the world.”
“Ever since I’ve been in the Ireland squad we’ve always had some quality attacking players and always create chances if we defend well. If take our chances anything can happen in a knock-out game.”
The sport is an adapted version of the game played with modified laws including a smaller pitch, seven players on each team, no offside and underarm throw-ins permitted.
You can watch the Quarter Final, taking place in Salou, from 0830 this morning at this link.
