The medal for the 2024 Irish Life Dublin Marathon has been revealed. It was designed by Myla Sirvyte a student at the National College of Art & Design in Dublin.

The organisers of the marathon collaborated with NCAD to bring a fresh perspective and creativity to the medal design. Students were invited to submit designs, and the winning one was chosen from among several innovative concepts.

Sirvyte is a 20-year-old resident of Tallaght, originally hailing from Lithuania.

“I wanted to show that the Dublin Marathon is a journey,” she said. “I have included the iconic and historical buildings runners pass along the route.”

The medal includes intricate designs of the Stephen’s Green archway, Georgian buildings on Merrion Square, St Patrick’s Cathedral, the James Joyce bridge, Kilmainham Gaol, the Phoenix Monument and Áras an Uachtaráin.

The medal also includes a unique rotating disc with illustrations of runners.

“The idea is that you rotate the bottom disc, which replicates the different stages of the race. Runners are shown in large groups, pairs, or on their own to reflect their own unique journey while illustrating their sense of togetherness and achievement.”

“I was so excited to see the finished product and that the moving disc was possible as I had never seen that in a medal design before. The idea that thousands of people will receive the medal on marathon day, is overwhelming to me.”

The Irish Life Dublin Marathon won the Best in Europe sponsorship at the European Sponsorship Awards earlier this year. The race will take place
