Sport Ireland has begun the roll out of the organisation’s new brand mark and visual identity. It is an important step in the highlighting of the multiple areas in which Sport Ireland operates, but at the same time unifying them under the single brand of Sport Ireland.
The body was created last year with the coming together of the Irish Sports Council and the National Sports Campus, as well as other elements including the Institute of Sport.
Logos and identity are incredibly important in the thought that has to go into the back story behind them.
The Sport for Business logo represents the coming together of the two elements of Sport and Business on a medal to symbolise the successful outcome of hard work. It works for us as a constant reminder of what our organisation is all about.
So too with the new identity for Sport Ireland.
“The project has been carried out over the last six months, during which time we have considered both best practice brand design from across the world and the specific requirements of the organisation,” said Sport Ireland’s Anne McCarthy speaking to Sport for Business last night.
“The brand has been developed to provide the organisation with a vibrant and consistent visual identity to support the work that is being undertaken across the broad range of services and supports provided by Sport Ireland.”
“The simple logo style represents movement and collaboration, with a nod to a more modern form of Celtic design.”
“Considering the importance of sport across the country and the positive impact of sport on people and community, it was decided to develop a visual identity which suggested energy and vibrancy.”
“This energy and vibrancy is best represented in the way the visual identity will be used across the constituent organisations within Sport Ireland, with bright, vibrant colours used to represent various streams of activity.”
“A decision was made to unite all constituent organisations within a single visual identity in order to represent Irish sport in a more united and ultimately more effective manner.”
“The brand mark and the visual identity system has been created to insure that it can grow as the organisation and it’s offering grows.

The project was managed in house at Sport Ireland with agency help from Atomic Sport who have also worked on projects for the FAI, Leinster Rugby, Paralympics Ireland and the One Zero Conference.
“As long term creative partner to Sport Ireland, it was a pleasure to work closely with the team there on the rebrand of the organisation,” said Atomic Sport Director Patrick Murphy.
“We believe Sport Ireland now have an identity and a brand architecture which supports all of the fantastic work carried out right across the sporting spectrum in this country.”
“We are particularly looking forward to helping bring the new brand to life in the coming weeks and months with updated content and imagery, which we look forward to sharing with the Sport for Business community.”
