The Olympic Federation of Ireland hosted its fourth annual Team Ireland Olympic Golf Fundraiser at the K Club last week, with over 120 golfers braving persistent rain to show their support for Irish Olympians on the road to the upcoming Games in Milano Cortina 2026 and LA 2028.

Held on the South Course of the K Club, the event brought together Olympians, corporate partners, sponsors, and key stakeholders for a day of golf and celebration.

The tournament was played in a four-person scramble format and was followed by an evening function that featured a keynote address from three-time Olympian Thomas Barr.

Olympic medallists Rhys McClenaghan, Michael Carruth, Philip Doyle, Aidan Walsh, and David Wilkins were among the high-profile athletes who took part.

The event raises vital funds to directly support Team Ireland athletes in their high-performance pursuits.

Despite the wet weather, spirits remained high throughout the day, culminating in an evening event hosted by impressionist and MC Alan Shortt.

In his keynote address, Thomas Barr reflected on his career, highlighting the importance of enjoying the journey and surrounding oneself with the right support network.

Olympic rowing champion Fintan McCarthy also addressed the audience, offering insight into his transition to the heavyweight category and recent success at the European Championships.

Peter Sherrard, CEO of the Olympic Federation of Ireland, welcomed attendees and provided an update on the Federation’s ongoing efforts to build philanthropic support for Irish athletes.

OFI President Lochlann Walsh also addressed guests, underlining the essential role that financial backing plays in helping athletes reach their Olympic potential.

, described the event as more than a fundraiser:

“The Team Ireland Olympic Golf Tournament has grown into more than just a fundraiser,” said Catherine Tiernan, Commercial Director at the OFI.

“It’s a celebration of the athlete journey and a community coming together to back Irish talent. Even with the wet weather, we had full attendance, which speaks volumes about the commitment to supporting our Olympic athletes.”
