The total of tickets sold in this first round of public sales reached 950,000 bringing the total number to 1.29 million once the 340,000 sold through clubs have been added in.
In total there were five million applications in the round and those who applied will learn whether or not they have been successful tomorrow morning. Ireland is reported to have been the second biggest source of applications behind England.
500,000 applications were received for the final and there was an over subscription for every price of ticket in 23 of the 48 games. The entry level was over subscribed for every match.
Those who applied but were unsuccessful will have priority when the second batch of public sale tickets is released towards the end of next month. No date has yet been set for when applications will re-open.
“We are thrilled with demand for tickets a year out from the tournament, and the record level of demand we saw in September is a terrific indicator of the general interest and excitement for Rugby World Cup 2015,” said Debbie Jevans, Chief Executive Officer of England Rugby 2015.
“Demand has exceeded supply for a high number of our matches, and the only downside of such strong demand is that there will inevitably be some disappointment when rugby fans are notified of the results of their applications on Saturday.”
“We would like to thank everyone who applied for tickets and anyone who missed out on tickets this time will get first priority when the remaining tickets go back on sale next month.”
Tickets are still available via the official travel and hospitality programmes with official supporter tour package sales currently at more than 160,000 and on track to break the 184,000 record levels achieved for France 2007.
Tickets for all four of Ireland’s pool matches had four categories of ticket prices starting from £15 (€18.70) for adults and £7 (€8.76) for children.
