Middle East GAA has unveiled its new three‑year strategic roadmap, titled “From Sand to Sod: Middle East GAA Strategic Plan 2025–2028”, under the guidance of World GAA Chairperson Ciarán McLaughlin
The launch event, held in conjunction with the organisation’s Strategic Steering Committee, brought together key figures including Chair Gearóid Cronin, a healthcare leader working in Abu Dhabi, Keith O’Connor, Tricia Gallagher, once of PwC and KPMG in Dublin, Dr. Ann Collins, Stephen Twomey, Ciarán Cundelan, and Jamie Queeney—supported by backing from Leinster GAA
It’s stated vision is to foster a “vibrant, volunteer‑led community where Gaelic Games thrive, offering a home away from home, a sport of choice, and a celebration of Irish culture”
The plan sets out three major pillars guiding the region’s development efforts through 2028
- Building a Thriving Community – Sharpening volunteer recruitment, enhancing club cohesion, and developing community engagement.
- Growing Our Games – Expanding participation through outreach programs, youth development, coaching, and grassroots growth.
- Strengthening Our Organisation – Improving governance, structure, financial resilience, and administrative capacity to support long‑term sustainability.
In March and April, clubs were engaged through surveys and workshops to share insights on priorities, trends, and opportunities.
This formed the foundation of the final strategic document which was followed by planning exercises to align upcoming seasons with strategic milestones
World GAA Chairperson Ciarán McLaughlin attended the launch and praised the shared ambition and volunteer spirit fueling the initiative.
Leinster GAA was acknowledged as a key partner in mentoring and supporting the strategic development.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
The international growth of the GAA is based on an attachment to home but also on the appeal of the games to local audiences that have no connection back to Ireland. Who knows how far it might stretch but always good to plan for growth.
WHAT’S UP NEXT?
Sport for Business is in planning for major events bringing together leaders in Irish Sport and Business across a range of subjects in the second half of the year.
