Shane Lowry is back in Ireland for Christmas and was out and about promoting the new Amgen branding on the Irish Open for which he is an ambassador.
Amgen was announced last week and covered on Sport for Business as the new brand partner for the Irish Open following the company’s takeover of Horizon Therapeutics in recent months.
Horizon signed a five year deal to be the title partner of the event which was staged at the K Club last year and will be again in 2025, and which will take place in 2024 at Royal County Down Golf Club.
Along with Lowry, Irish professional golfers, Pádraig Harrington, Séamus Power and Brendan Lawlor served as golf ambassadors on behalf of Horizon Therapeutics, and they will have now become Amgen golf ambassadors, wearing the Amgen logo while in competition.
Lowry’s profile is also good for fellow Irish sponsors Teneo and Wayflyer. He was quizzed yesterday about his feelings on fellow Irish Open winner Jon Rahm’s recent defection to LIV Golf and suffice to say he was less than impressed with talk of growing the game and putting food on the table coming from a multi-millionaire.
Amgen is also taking on the partnership of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open which will take place this year from August 29th to September 1st at Carton House.
The 2024 Amgen Irish Open, part of the DP World Tour, will take place at the Royal County Down Golf Club in from Sept. 11-15, 2024.
