Boston College is the venue for an event this evening looking at the relationship between sport and the state through the history of Ireland.

Minister of State Patrick O’Donovan will be joined by Boston College’s Mike Cronin, Sports Historian from UCD Paul Rouse and Dr Katie Liston from Ulster University to explore areas of the past that may prove an invaluable pointer towards actions in the future.

Boston College has a long history of leadership in the history of Irish sport having been a driver of the GAA’s Oral History project and the Irish Sporting History project.

This evening’s event comes at an opportune time when Government is poring over submissions from across the sporting spectrum on what our own national policy towards sport should look like over the next decade.

We will be there this evening to bring you a report on what is said and on how history may prove our best guide to the future.
