It is Race week in Galway and when could be better to host our annual gathering of Sport for Business members and friends in the City
We gathered this morning in the great Innovation Space at the Portershed facility on Market Street.
The morning consisted of a series of conversations with those present, inspired by Galway’s adopted son Tommy Tiernan’s concept of fate determining who would be interviewed by each of the two co-hosts Rob Hartnett and Joanne Murphy of Tri Talking Sport and Ironman International.
Outside the comfort zone of meticulous preparation the idea worked with unexpected twists and turns coming from each of the 12 members we were able to fit in.
Yvonne Comer from Portershed and the IRFU gave us insight on being part of the leadership group driving Women’s Rugby at every level.
Amanda Burgio spoke of the importance of a star like Rhys McClenaghan inspiring the next generation of athletes like European Youth Olympic Festival Gold and Bronze Medallist Chester Enriquez.
Emma Meehan, a one time Sport for Business / PwC 30 Under 30 Nominee got across the success of KinetikIQ across US and Global sporting properties and the power of Galway ideas was further expanded upon by Mark Flood, the Executive Chair of Kappture, a company we will be featuring with another major announcement in the coming weeks.
Andrew McBride of the Galway Local Sports Partnership spoke of the importance of the work they do in helping people be active across the county, while Henry O’Hora outline his hoped for a more inclusive sporting landscape through his Diverse Sports Agency, and Christy O’Hara outlined why sport is so important to him and his efforts through HRWorks to help sporting stars transition into business.
We talked about the power of sponsorship with Noel Martyn, Intelligence Director at Core, about the advance of Squash towards the Los Angeles Olympics with Tiarnan Harris of Squash Ireland and before we knew it the clock had run down.
There is always something special about bringing people together to share their stories, their experience and their passion. It was fun to do it again in Galway and sure we have only scratched the surface of the talent and the imagination that exists here in the West.
We will be back again.
