Paralympics opening 2Paralympics Ireland was a winner at the 2013 All Ireland Marketing Awards with the Governing Body taking the prestigious award for the best PR Campaign of the Year.
It beat off opposition from Arnotts, Easons, Lay Healthcare and the campaign for the Digital Switchover to land the prize, which was sponsored by the Dublin Institute of Technology.
The award was given for the use of the London 2012 Paralympic games to raise awareness of elite disability sport. The Governing Body worked with Pembroke Communications, to develop an extensive PR campaign in the lead up to and during the games, targeting media to get attention by providing them with information and access to athletes and events.
Electric Ireland won the Sponsorship Award for its support of Team Ireland at the London Olympics.  Lisa Browne who managed the campaign will be one of the key speakers at the Sport for Business Business of Women’s Sport Conference on June 20th at the UCD Smurfit Business School.
The Team Ireland sponsorship was hailed at the awards as the most successful sponsorship in the company’s history.  It beat opposition from Carlsberg, Cadbury, Centra and O2 as sport dominated the sponsorship category sponsored by RTE.
It was a good weekend all round for Paralympics with Orla Barry setting an unofficial world record in the Discus at the test event in Lyon for the World games later this year.
Paralympians also competed at the Manchester City Games for the first time with Jonnie Peacock and other stars from the Paralympic Games taking part on the raised four lane track constructed in the centre of the City and broadcast live on BBC.
