For many of Katie Taylor’s fans, Mike Tyson is the guy from the Hangover movie, but to her he is a hero.

She said yesterday at the official launch of her Fight against Amanda Serrano on the card alongside Tyson against Jake Paul, that she fell in the love with the sport in the 1990’s when he was at the top of his game.

Now there is a whiff of the circus about asking him to come back into the ring at the age of 57 for a fight against a promoter who made his name as a YouTuber.

Tyson last fought competitively in 2005, though he did take part in an eight round exhibition against roy Jone Jr four years ago.

The things is though that with the fight being shown with no additional pay-per-view charge to the 270 million subscribers to Netflix around the world, this will probably be his biggest ever audience.

Hopefully most will watch the show from earlier to see Taylor and Serrano go toe to toe in a rematch of what is recognised as one of the fights of all time in Madison Square Garden.

They topped the bill that time and would doubtless have done so again but for the doubtless big money being dangled by fighting in the Dallas Cowboys home stadium and going out on the streaming channel.

Taylor joined in the show yesterday talking reverently about her dream to meet Tyson and about his knowledge of boxing history as well as his place in it.

The fight will take place on Saturday, July 20th, tickets to be there live go on sale this Thursday, Netflix cameras will be rolling and no doubt, despite some reservations, we will be tuning in for the real fight, and doubtless staying on for the rest.

It will allow Taylor to earn a reputed $6 Million purse and present a fight that true boxing fans will really want to see. Perhaps that is enough.
