The Camogie Association and Very launched the National League in the sport yesterday with Tipperary very much up for the fight in terms of defending the Division 1 A title they won last year.

This represented something of a breakthrough for the sport beyond the big three of Cork, Galway and Kilkenny who have won the last 12 Glen Dimplex All Ireland Senior Championships between them.

Tipperary will host Dublin in the first round of fixtures on February 22nd.

Dublin themselves won a first senior silverware in over 40 years when winning Division 1B last year and will also be keen to maintain the momentum of that victory.

The other games on the first weekend of Division 1 A see Cork take on Waterford and Galway travel to Kilkenny.

This weekend it will be Division 1B in the spotlight as Down take on Limerick, Clare play Westmeath and Antrim host Wexford, the last side from outside the big three to win the All Ireland title.

Camogie Association Chair Brian Molloy is calling on fans to come out and support the teams in the League and to build towards another good season of action leading up to the All Ireland Finals Day in Croke Park in August.

Very took on the ownership of the sponsorship from Littlewoods Ireland who first sponsored the tournament in 2017.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Tipperary’s win last year was a surprise but one built on solid foundations and it will be interesting to follow how they and Dublin build on good years on 2024.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

The first Very League fixtures will take place this weekend.
