Virgin Media Television will air live coverage of the Republic of Ireland men’s national team next month, as the Boys in Green play host to Belgium and Switzerland on March 23rd and 26th respectively.
The FAI games in the UEFA Qualifiers for the Euro and World Cup Finals are tied into a collective deal where RTÉ has the exclusive coverage rights here but friendly games can be negotiated separately as is the case here.
The team are set to kick off a new era following the departure of Stephen Kenny, with the two games at the Aviva Stadium.
First up will be the visit of Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Belgium, who are currently fourth in the FIFA World Rankings, on Saturday March 23rd.
Euro 2024-bound Switzerland will then come to town on Tuesday, March 26th, with both games set to be played out in front of bumper crowds at the Aviva Stadium.
“We are hugely excited to be broadcasting these two friendly internationals free to air for Irish football fans,” said Mick McCaffrey, Head of News and Sport at Virgin Media Television.
“With the FAI’s search for a permanent manager in full swing and the fact that Belgium boasts a host of star names in their squad, these fixtures will be of massive interest.”
“This comes on the back of our recent agreement with the FAI to air 14 SSE Airtricity Premier Division games this season. We are delighted to extend our partnership and support for Irish football.”
“We’re delighted to see the first two MNT matches of the year set to be broadcast live on Virgin Media Television,” added Sean Kavanagh, Commercial Director at the FAI.
“This is part of their ongoing commitment to Irish football with 14 League of Ireland matches to be broadcast live in the 2024 season following the momentum and success of their coverage of their first League of Ireland games last year.”
“The two matches against Belgium and Switzerland are set to be fantastic matches against top-quality opposition and we’re looking forward to working with Virgin Media Television as an international broadcast partner as they deliver live Ireland matches free-to-air.”
