Tickets go on sale today for the historic first ever Women’s Rugby RBS Six Nations match to be played at the Aviva Stadium.
Ireland will take on Italy 40 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s international on the same day. This is the reverse of the 2013 fixture where the Irish team, led by captain Fiona Coghlan captured only the third ever Grand Slam in the history of Irish Rugby.
At last summer’s Business of Women’s Sport Conference we called for a greater number of dual fixtures involving the Men’s and Women’s teams across a number of sports and are very pleased to support this breakthrough in rugby.
Those who have tickets for the Men’s game will be invited to stay on and support the Women while a number of tickets are on sale today exclusively for the Women’s game at the same price of €10 for adults and €5 for children that normally apply to the home matches that are played at Ashbourne Rugby Club.
The IRFU are also getting behind the game by offering a payment of €400 to any club that fields a Women’s team to put towards the cost of travelling to Dublin as a group.
“We are delighted to put our full support behind this historic Women’s RBS 6 Nations international at the Aviva Stadium,” said IRFU Commercial and Marketing Director Padraig Power.
All of England’s Home matches in the Championship are played at Twickenham as dual fixtures with the Men’s team and it is hoped that this experiment in Dublin will be well supported enough to make that same possibility come through in Ireland.
