The FAI has launched a new club fundraising programme with its official betting partner Bragbet.
When new customers sign up to the social betting service they will nominate an Irish club, drawn from all levels of the game. The club will then be given a direct monthly payment equivalent to two per cent of all the bets placed by each of the customers who has named it as their chosen club.
The payment is made regardless of whether the bet wins or loses and will be made monthly in arrears.
To support the launch of the scheme, BragBet are giving the first 2,000 customers who email fai@bragbet.com a free €10 bet if Martin O’Neill’s Ireland team beat Serbia at the Aviva Stadium tonight.
BragBet is a team betting platform that allows groups of friends to form a team, pool their money and bet against BragBet, in a more interactive departure from conventional betting. The captain of the team changes every week, and team members try to influence the captain’s decision making with their strong sporting opinions. The one who gets it right most often earns ‘bragging rights’ winning the team.
“This incentive will be a great revenue stream for clubs, who will get a monthly cheque to boost their finances,” said BragBet CEO, Phil Riordan. “We aren’t looking for customers who don’t enjoy a flutter, but asking those who do, to use BragBet and support their local soccer club. For example, a small club that creates ten BragBet teams could earn enough in a year for a new set of jerseys, which is a big deal these days.”
“It’s a win win arrangement all round, the Clubs get a few quid even when their members win and BragBet gets to support grassroots soccer.”
John Delaney CEO of the FAI added that “We have had great success with the FAI National Draw, and this is another novel fundraising idea designed to help grassroots soccer. BragBet have been creative in coming up with a simple initiative that local club supporters can get behind to benefit their own club and we hope they do.”
Soccer betting is the fastest growing sector within the industry, outstripping horse racing for many online operators in recent years. Irish companies are to the fore on the world stage with Paddy Power producing stellar results again this week and continuing to dominate on a global scale.
BragBet became the Official Betting Partner of the FAI in September of last year and is backed by Telefonica, and Boylesports amongst others.
