No fewer than 52 Irish Triathletes are heading to Geneva this weekend to compete in the European Triathlon Championships.

The team is led by Bryan Keane from Cork who set a new course record at the hell of the West event only last week.  He will be joined by Junior elite James Edgar, paratriathlete Aidan McGlynn and  49 age group competitors, all representing their country.

All those competing are being subsidised by Triathlon Ireland’s travel sponsors Nirvana Europe and staying at a Team Ireland hotel together bear to the event start line.

The governing body are also sending a team manager for the age group competitors, as well as coaches for the elite trio.

“We want to support what everyone is doing, give them an enjoyable experience and deliver a great performance on the day,” said Triathlon Ireland media manager Scott Graham.

“We are expecting a team of 80 Age Group athletes to travel to the ITU World Championships in Chicago from the 15-20th of September.”

“This is a huge sport tourism opportunity and Triathlon Ireland are actively engaging with partners in order to attract a European Triathlon Union or International Triathlon Union event to Ireland in the coming years.”
