Britain will go into a full lockdown this Thursday in a bid to halt soaring Covid numbers but elite sport will carry on.

This means that the Premier League and matches involving British teams in the European competitions will continue, albeit behind closed doors.

The same will be true of the Autumn Series Rugby internationals and of Horse Racing which will begin to step up the level of activity in the National Hunt season.

The lockdown will be similar to our Level 5 with everyone encouraged to stay at home for all bar the most essential of reasons.

The lockdown period will broadly coincide with our own and will apply to England, with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland already having gone further in efforts to suppress the spread of the virus.

News of other sporting events scheduled to take place over the period in question will be coming out over the coming days.
