It was a week to remember for Irish racing with trainers from this side of the Irish sea landing 23 of the 28 races run at the Championship celebration of the sport.
The previous record was 19 and it is only 30 years ago that we were scrambling around looking for a single winner.
Rachael Blackmore set records as the first woman to ride the winner of one of the big three Championship Races at the Festival, and as the first to be crowned as Champion Jockey over the four days.
Henry De Bromhead, training in Waterford became the first of his profession to land all three of the main events in the one year.
The reasons for the dominance are likely many and varied. The quality of the racing programme is higher here now, helped by the creation of the Dublin Racing Festival in early February as a key preparation point for Cheltenham as well as a major event in its own right.
The quality of our trainers and jockeys has perhaps never been as deep, attracting owners not only from here but from Britain as well.
Whatever the reasons last week was a cause for major celebration and today’s double dose of Daily Video gives us a flash memory of Ireland’s winners as well as a spectacular jockey cam view of what it is like to ride in the biggest race of the Festival, the Wellchild Cheltenham Gold Cup.
