With Tottenham Hotspur’s great new stadium staging the final of the Investec Champions Cup in 2024, the tournament organisers are going back to previous host venues for the 2025 and 2026 finals.

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with a capacity of 74,000 will be the venue next year, followed by the San Mames Stadium, home to Atletico Bilbao taking the responsibility in 2026.

Cardiff was the venue for the first ever European Champions Cup Final back in 1996. Since then it has hosted the big game six more times including for the wins of Munster Rugby in 2006 and 2008 and Leinster Rugby in 2011. A lucky venue then, as is Bilbao where Leinster Rugby beat Racing 92 in 2018 for the last Irish win in the tournament.

“Returning to Cardiff 30 years on from the iconic first Final means a great to deal to us and our friends here in the city, and we will celebrate the milestone appropriately,” said Dominic McKay, Chair of European Professional Club Rugby.

“We know this rugby heartland will not only be proud to host this historic weekend, but will welcome rugby fans from across the world to join us in Cardiff for our EPCR Finals Weekend in 2025.”
