TG4 will broadcast this week’s FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup Finals, which take place in Copenhagen, and which feature Ireland in the men’s tournament for the first time.

The team won their qualifying tournament in June, defeating Cyprus in the final.

It will be a challenging task, but one that should make for excellent viewing.

Ireland face the last two FIBA 3×3 Olympic champions – Latvia and the Netherlands – in their two pool games, which take place tomorrow, Friday, at 10.30 am and 3.45 pm, both of which will be live on the TG4 Player and App.

“We’re really excited to see our Ireland men’s 3×3 team get on the court on Friday against the cream of the FIBA 3×3 crop,” said John Feehan, CEO of Basketball Ireland.

“It’s a historic achievement to be playing in this tournament, and facing the last two 3×3 Olympic champions shows the calibre of opposition we are mixing with.”

“Having the games broadcast on TG4 Player and App is a huge boost for the squad and the sport in general, with 3×3 growing at a rapid pace in Ireland.”

“It continues our long-running partnership with TG4, the station having recently broadcast our JYSK Summer Series friendly games against Norway in July.”

“We’re delighted to be showcasing the Ireland men’s 3×3 team at the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup finals,” added TG4 Head of Sport, Rónán O’Coisdealbha.

“The team have done brilliantly to reach the finals, playing an exciting brand of basketball in the qualifying tournament. We’re looking forward to bringing this tournament and 3×3 to a wider audience in Ireland, also broadcasting Sunday’s men’s quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.”

“Overall, TG4’s commitment to Irish basketball has been long-standing, and we’re thrilled to expand on it.”
